Type and Image

Examples of how type and image works together as inspiration for this poster and branding...

Thoughts:
Most effective when less words and really impact heavy type and image. If the image is simple the the type can be decorative, if the image is complex, the type should be simple.

Movie festivals...

Movie events, competitions and festival posters... I need to keep remembering this is for filmakers, and not necessarily on the audience in a cinema but the people behind the camera and concept.

Thoughts:
Love the black fade of the edges on the find posters. Bold image to make a statement on most of these, how can I use type?

Movie reel

Trying to find imagery which I can use as a background image for this poster... I want something which clearly says filmmaker and not just promoting a film.

Filmmaking (often referred to in an academic context as film production) is the process of making a film, from an initial storyidea, or commission, through scriptwritingcasting, shooting, editing, and screening the finished product before an audience that may result in a theatrical release or television program

I though an image of some movie reel would be good but surprisingly, this was hard to come across...

Hyde Park Picture House

Looking at the retro style of the Picture House and their advertising, I think something reflecting on the craftsmanship of film making rather than the high-tech side of it. As this is going to attract students, something quite on top of the current trends would be good. I'm thinking limited colours for a photograph, maybe a gradient... and bold black or white text over the top.

Pyramid of Arts

Pretty poor logo, but a great cause. I think stating the charity name and number would be a good idea as the logo is not well recognised.

YFM-FEST current branding

Initial research into the current marketing of YFM-FEST, hopefully this will give me an idea of the look they want to perceive and what people would assume connects the posters I create with the current branding of the festival...

Discovered that I believe this to be the first year this has run and so there is no logo or marketing tools which an audience would recognise. Its a hard task for a day to make all these decisions, however its pretty good as there are not too many boundaries!

Melbourne Dance Company

Found this little gem on Roz's blog. Beautiful imagery with beautiful type. One criticism is that the text is not easily readable. Each individual letter is legible and stunning, but all together, it is difficult to distinguish and follow the letters to understand the shape formed and so harder to understand the message. However, a great example of display font with photography!

Thoughts:
Get a great image and play around with type in-between the letterforms to merge the two elements. Also great photography of identity in context, need to work on this in my own work.
